Bertha Mae O'Conner Whitfield, , passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge at the age of 72. Born on July 6, 1953, Bertha Mae was a woman whose life was deeply anchored in faith, family, and kindness—a true evangelist who loved God wholeheartedly and radiated that love to everyone around her.

Bertha Mae’s warmth and loving nature were evident to all who knew her. She found joy in the simplest of moments, such as sitting on the porch where many memories were made and cherished. Her spirit was one of generosity and hospitality, often expressed through her passion for cooking and sharing delicious meals with family and friends. She loved to eat and delight in the company of those she held dear, always savoring the laughter and stories that filled the room.

She was a devoted mother to Donovan Brunious, Kenyetta O'Conner, and Fabian O'Conner, and took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, her proudest accomplishments in life. Her legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren—Tre'Aric, Mark, Jayda, Ja'Vionne, and Jaylyn—and her great-grandchildren Jadyn, Karine, Jacoby, Kashmire, Messiah, Arielle, Mahzie, and D'Mauri, each of whom carried forward the light of her love. Bertha Mae also held a special place in her heart for her nephew, Ronald Kendell, whom she loved as her own.

In addition to her immediate family, Bertha Mae shared cherished bonds with her close friends Linda “Cat,” Lynn, and Peggy, as well as her special neighbor Angie, and numerous other relatives and friends who were uplifted by her presence. Her joys extended to outings at the casino, further illustrating her zest for life and the simple pleasures she embraced.

Bertha Mae’s life was shaped by the memories of those who went before her, including her beloved parents Louis and Iola McKnight O'Conner, and her siblings. She also mourned the loss of close friends Carrie Ann and Janice, who, like Bertha, left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

Though her earthly journey has ended, Bertha Mae Whitfield’s legacy of kindness, faith, and love remains a guiding light to all who were fortunate to know her. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of family and friendship, and the profound joy that comes from living with an open heart. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and lovingly cherished.
