Bertye Lee Harris Yates

Mrs. Bertye Lee Harris Yates, age 92 of Doyle, passed away peacefully at Hospice Care of Chattanooga on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Bertye was born November 22, 1933 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Lee and Annie Daniels Harris. She worked at Doyle Shirt Factory for 14 years, later retiring from Mallory after 34 years of service. She was a faithful member of the Doyle Church of Christ and will be fondly remembered as longtime fixture of Doyle. Bertye enjoyed her daily walks, reading her bible, and doing crossword puzzles. But most of all, she loved being Nanny for her family.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Lewis "R.L." Yates who died December 11, 2014; son Jerry Lynn Yates; siblings William Harris, Hayden Harris, Bell Dodson, Martha Swindell Knowles, Misty McDonald and Mary Green.

Survivors include her daughters Pat (Donny) Haley and Connie (Ray) Spivey all of Doyle

Grandchildren: Bryan (Cynthia) Haley, Joshua Kirby (Sarah Shockley), Amanda (Troy) Gibson, Kevin Yates (Jennifer Karle)

Great-grandchildren: Hannah Haley, Matthew Haley, Cayden (Madison) Kirby, Kyanna Kirby, Noah Gibson, Chloe Gibson, Rayne Dodson and Austin Wendt

Extended family members Tyler, Brittany, Braxton, Jayden and Blake Spivey and Ronnie Harris

A host of nieces and nephews also survive

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Thursday, January 22, 2026 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Anderson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Michael Neal and Tim Judd will officiate.

Bryan Haley, Matthew Haley, Joshua Kirby, Cayden Kirby, Kevin Yates, Troy Gibson and Noah Gibson will serve as pallbearers.
