Beryl E. (McKenzie) Brooks, a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and loving friend, passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on September 19, 1948, in Clarendon, Jamaica, Beryl was the daughter of Claudius McKenzie and Hilda May Mard. Early in her childhood, she migrated to London, England, to be with her mother. While living in England, she worked as a nurse. She attended The Beulah Apostolic Church in London, England under the leadership of Bishop Rufus Anderson where she gave her life to the lord and served faithfully. Evangelist Brooks met her lifelong partner Headley G. Brooks and was married on November 22, 1969. They were married for 55 years.
In 1988, she migrated to the United States of America to make a better life for her family. She work mainly in childcare for many years. She attended Rehoboth Pentecostal Church in Trenton, NJ under the leadership of Bishop Rupert Johnson Sr. Eventually, she & her Husband were called to start a new Ministry in Trenton, NJ. The Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ Jesus Apostolic.
She worked tirelessly in the ministry by giving of herself for the cause of Christ. She was the beloved Evangelist Brooks that you can call on at any time to lend a hand or to take you anywhere you need to go rain or sunshine. She always went above & beyond and the church was her first priority at all times. She was a part of the community and the community was a part of her. Evangelist Brooks' warmth, generosity, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome was evident in every aspect of her life. Her love for her immediate family & church family & friends will always be remembered.
She was preceded by her father, Claudius McKenzie; mother, Hilda May Mard; and sister, Enid McKenzie.
Evangelist Brooks leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, strength, and compassion. She is survived by her husband, Headley G. Brooks; children: Wayne A. Brooks, Amanda J. Brooks, and Diane R. Lewis; grandchildren: Shaquille Brooks, Jahron Brooks, Adrian Brooks, Marquise Perry, Amber Brooks, Daryl Brooks, and Davon Moore; great-grandchildren, Zoe Gallashaw and Kalib Brooks; brothers, Biggs McKenzie (better known as Mac), Lincoln McKenzie, Windell McKenzie, Lester McKenzie, and George McKenzie as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, friends, and of course, those who called her family.
She will be deeply missed by family, saints & friends who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
