Beryl Witt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt Cremations & Funeral Services on Mar. 9, 2026.
Beryl Jean Witt, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on March 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was just a few weeks shy of her 88th birthday.

Beryl was born on March 23, 1938, in Union, Oregon, to Guy and Sylvia Hall. She began school in Oregon then the family moved to Washington and she attended Waitsburg High School, where she was crowned Prom Queen her senior year, graduating with the Class of 1956. After high school, Beryl traveled to Washington D.C. to attend secretarial school. After her trip to D.C., she returned to Waitsburg and stayed, making it the heart of her life, her work, and her family.

Many in the community remember Beryl from the Green Giant Cannery and the local grocery stores where she worked throughout the years until her retirement. For countless customers, a trip to the store meant more than groceries - it meant a quick visit, a shared laugh, and a moment with Beryl. She had a quick wit, a warm presence, and a way of turning customers into friends, and friends into family.

Beryl loved anything that brought people together with a little fun and friendly competition. She enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and card games, and she was never one to pass up a chance to roll the dice. Trips to Wildhorse Casino were among her favorite outings - she even believed Christmas Day was a perfectly good time to go, a story her family still laughs about.

Above all, Beryl loved her family. Her home was the gathering place for every holiday and Sunday dinner for many years. Most adult family members brought their change containers, knowing there would be a big poker game that would start before dinner and end later that evening. Those gatherings were rarely quiet - she loved to tease, joke, and keep everyone laughing, and she had a gift for making people feel like they belonged at her table. Family or not, she always made room for anyone who needed a place to feel at home. Everyone was always welcome. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she cherished watching the family grow.

Beryl is survived by her sister, Jo Wolfe; her children, Carol White, Patty Eng (Marvin), and Tony Witt (Joan Blodgett); her grandchildren, Jennifer Catlett (Kevin), Kyla Winger, Loren Presley (Jonathon), Sydney Eng, Maddy Witt, and Riley Witt; and her great-grandchildren, Paige Catlett, Parker Catlett, Aaliyah Hubbard, Kacen Hubbard, Julian Gillentine, and Cameron Winger. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss her laughter and her ability to make even an ordinary day feel a little brighter.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Guy O. Hall and Sylvia L. (Fickle) Hall; her brothers Bill Hall, Vernon Hall and David Hall; her sisters Eileen Owens, Thelma Palumbo, Dorothy Smith, Beth Zichur, Wanda Witt and Donna Hall; and her beloved grandson, Kevin C. Winger.

A celebration of Beryl's life will be held on March 21 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Waitsburg Lions Club at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds. Family and Friends are invited to come share stories, laughter, and memories of Beryl. For more information, please contact Patty Eng at (509) 520-0473 or Carol White at (509) 386-5305.

Beryl will be deeply missed, but her quick wit, her laughter, and the many stories she leaves behind will continue to bring comfort to those who loved her. She had a way of making people smile, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, her friends, a nd her community.
