Beth Seawell Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 20, 2026.
Beth Gordon Seawell, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born on September 11, 1939, in Tallassee, Alabama, to William (Billy) Watkins Gordon and Myrtle Vera Gordon (née Mann). Beth is now reunited with her brothers Bob and Bill, and her sisters Lois, Joan, Gail, and Anne.

A proud graduate of Tallassee High School, where she brightly shone as a varsity cheerleader, Beth embraced life to the fullest. She attended secretarial school in Montgomery, Alabama, before working as a model and secretary. Later, she moved to Greenville, South Carolina, to be near her first cousins, Susan Cox and Martha "Noostie" Lowery. In Greenville, she initially worked for an independent insurance agency before taking on a cherished role as the secretary to the Principal of Greenville Charter High School, serving the community with dedication for many years.

Beth was previously married to Henry "Rusty" Ravesies Seawell, who predeceased her in 2005.

The Gordan family nieces and nephews, all of whom have special memories of creating life's special moments with her as a family, dearly loved Auntie Bess, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving stepchildren: Leonard Seawell, Henry Seawell (Kate), Louise Brummett (Grant), and Robert Seawell (Ruth); along with her cherished 11 step-grandchildren, one of whom has already passed.

Known affectionately as "Auntie Bess," Beth was the life of every gathering, known for her love of celebrations, especially during the 4th of July, Halloween, and Christmas. Her vibrant personality, warm southern drawl, and unwavering faith enriched the lives of countless individuals, offering friendship and love at every turn. An avid reader and enthusiastic churchgoer at St. James Episcopal in Greenville, she cherished her family, friends, and community.

With an affinity for style, Beth was a fashionable dresser who always accessorized impeccably with her signature hats, jewelry, and gloves. She had a fondness for lively debates, often infused with laughter and spirited conversation, and she left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. A devoted Clemson fan, her passion for football, especially when watching games with her best friend Dottie Turner, brought joy and camaraderie into her life.

Celebrating her 80th birthday in grand style with three parties, Beth's life was a testament to her vitality and zest for life. She left a profound impact on her family and friends, particularly the "Trinity TaTa's"-the group of six girls for whom she babysat, creating lifelong bonds filled with love and laughter.

Friends and family will gather to honor Beth's remarkable life on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at St. James Episcopal Church, 301 Piney Mt. Road, Greenville SC 20609.

Beth wanted no flowers or plants given or sent to the church; she preferred that donations in her memory be given to the St. James Memorial Garden where her ashes will be interred.

Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

Beth Gordon Seawell will be remembered not just for her many roles but for the immense joy, love, and laughter she brought into the world. She will be dearly missed, leaving behind an enduring legacy of warmth and kindness.
