Rex Harrison Seawell, age 69, of Sophia passed away July 26, 2025 at his home.
He was born August 10, 1955 in Chatham County, North Carolina the son of the late Lemuel Dewitt Seawell and Esther Pearl Maness Seawell. Also preceding him in death are his son, Colt Seawell; sister, Elizabeth Allen McCall; and brother, Bert Seawell.
Rex graduated from South Granville High School in Creedmoor, North Carolina, where he embraced every opportunity to celebrate his love for sports and the outdoors. In his youth, he was a talented baseball player, even catching the attention of semi-pro scouts. This early enthusiasm for athletics stayed with him throughout his life. Rex's adventurous spirit found expression in his love for motorcycles, and he proudly served as a jackman with NASCAR, contributing his energy and enthusiasm to the racing world. His love for outdoor activities extended to fishing, where he found peace and joy in nature. A devoted father, Rex was actively involved in his children's lives, always present at their extracurricular activities and coaching their sports teams. His dedication and support encouraged them to pursue their passions with confidence. Rex's curiosity never waned, and he found new interests wherever he went. He became fascinated by pickleball, both playing and teaching the sport at the local YMCA. His warm, outgoing nature made him an exceptional coach, connecting with others and sharing his love for the game. Above all, Rex cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, creating memories filled with laughter and love. His kind heart and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him, making him not just a great father and friend, but an inspiration to all.
Left to cherish his memory are his life companion of 25 years, Kathy Robbins Tysinger; son, Nolan Seawell (Emma Mills); grandchildren, Wyatt Seawell, Weston Seawell, and Hazel Seawell; sister, Nancy Maness; canine companion, Bear; and numerous other beloved family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 2PM Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Flag Springs Methodist Church, 5852 Zoo Parkway,
Asheboro, NC 27205 with Pastor Brett Seawell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
