Carl Thomas George, 78, of Durham, NC passed away peacefully March 15, 2025, at Duke Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born November 11, 1946, in Henderson, NC, the son of the late Sammy George and Margaret Young George. He graduated from South Granville High School and proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard for 15 years.
Carl married Glenda Marks on March 4, 1967, at Calvary Baptist Church in Durham, NC. They were married 58 years and have one daughter, Tammi Kay George. In addition to his wife and their daughter, Mr. George is survived by his brother, Max George (Caron); sisters Kay George Pegram (Jessie); and other loving family members.
Carl worked as a computer programmer at IBM for 30 years and at SAS Institute for 29 years. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class. Though Carl was unable to attend church in recent years due to declining health, he loved the people of the church and watched sermons online every Sunday. Carl also loved his dachshunds including Paddy, O’Malley, Greta, and Buddy.
A visitation will be held Monday March 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at Gorman Baptist Church in Durham with Pastor Craig Phelps officiating. Interment will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens in Raleigh.
Memorial donations can be made through the NC Baptist Children’s Home, 204 Idol St., Thomasville, NC 27360, or flowers are acceptable.
