Thomas “Tom” MacRae, 84, of Timberlake, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. He was born in Norfolk, VA on April 7, 1941, to the late John and Gladys MacRae.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife Marie MacRae.
Mr. MacRae proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Police Officer for 12 years until he was honorably discharged as Airman First Class. Maintaining his commitment to law enforcement he then worked for the Durham Police Department for 25 years. He also was a Sergeant with the Durham County Sheriff’s Department for 35 years. Tom also worked for the Department of Defense in New York for several years.
Tom was a soft spoken and tender-hearted man. He enjoyed working in the yard and listening to 60’s Rock-n-Roll Music. Tom also looked forward to fishing, especially late-night catfishing. Mr. MacRae will be remembered as a man who would help anyone and was loyal to his family, community and nation. He will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched.
Mr. MacRae is survived by his sons, Dwayne Ferrell (Pam) and Roy Ferrell; daughters, Michelle Wilder (Robert) and Nerissa DesChamps (Rudy); brother, Albert Markham; sisters, Linda Ladd (Jimmy) and Clairee Kaufman; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and numerous other loving family members and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 2107 Liberty St., Durham, NC 27703. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the Graveside Service from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Terry Wright, Andrew Christakos, Caleb “Bubba” Ferrell, Josh Ferrell and Rudy DesChamps.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom’s name to the Durham Police Department Benevolence Fund.
