Betsy R. Newell, 78, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on May 17, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Stephen and Juanita Wood. Betsy worked as a dental hygienist and later as a homemaker. Betsy is preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Juanita Wood; brother Stephen Wood, III; and sons, Christopher Steffens and Dylan Steffens. Betsy is survived by her son, David (Celeste) Steffens and grandson, Jack Steffens.
Betsy's love for her family was unwavering. Her boys meant everything to her. As Betsy went through life's challenges, her sense of humor helped sustain her. She had a generous heart and an extraordinary love for dogs. Betsy was an exceptional cook, an amazing gardener, and truly had a "green thumb." Betsy loved football and found much joy in rooting for her favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
A private memorial gathering for immediate family will be held on May 25, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betsy's name to Great Plains SPCA animal shelter, which provides lifesaving services for dogs and other animals in the greater Kansas City area: https://www.greatplainsspca.org/donate/ or by mail to Attn: Development, 5428 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Betsy and our family.
