Bette Green

Bette Green passed away on October 23, 2023. She was 100+ years old. Bette lived most of her life in Los Angeles, moving to Oregon House in May 2022 (age 99) to live with her son, Allen, and his wife, Tanya. Bette's husband of 72 years, Robert Green, passed away in 2015.

Bette was raised in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles by her immigrant parents. She became an accomplished pianist under the instruction of her uncle. She attended UCLA in the 1940s, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. After the war, Bob and Bette moved to the newly-built community of Westchester (near LAX) where they raised their 5 children.

Bette's various homes were always artistic and beautifully decorated. Her passion for Japanese culture, art and antiques was on full display, and she loved to share her extensive knowledge with anyone at anytime.

Bette continued to play piano, even if only rarely. Just a few years ago, she and a friend would study the same piece of music, and then play together via a phone or internet hookup. She was never without a piano or keyboard in the house for virtually her entire life.

Bette is survived by 4 of her 5 children, daughters Leslee (Maggie Valley, North Carolina), Laurie (Los Angeles), David (Champaign, Illinois), and Allen (Oregon House). Her eldest, daughter Judy, passed away in 1999.

We thank and will remember Bette for making the world more beautiful for all of us.
