Funeral Service for Bette M. Mechaley age 99, of Neligh, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025 at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church of Neligh, Nebraska with Father Frank Baumert, officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will be Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh, Nebraska. Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Bette passed away on April 1, 2025 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. Bette Maxine Mechaley was born on May 3, 1925, the seventh daughter to Scott and Rhoda (Styer) Conner in Ewing, Nebraska. She attended school in Ewing through to graduating with the Class of 1943. Bette was united in marriage to James Mechaley on June 23, 1947 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh, Nebraska. The newlyweds settled to a property northwest of Neligh and began farming life. Bette began working outside the home in the mid-sixties at various retail jobs and then was employed at Antelope Memorial Hospital in 1970 where she remained until retiring in 1993. Loved being with family, playing cards, watching game shows, Husker Football and doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed going to the casino and getting scratch tickets. She was a member of the Bette’s Club and St. Francis Catholic Church.

She is survived by son, Tom Mechaley of Center, NE daughter Kate (Dan) Ahlstedt of O’Neill, NE, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law Pat Conner of Sergeant Bluff, IA.

Preceded in death by husband, James, parents, Scott and Rhoda Conner, sisters; Ethel, Gladys, Dorothy, Wilma, Hazel, Margie and brother, Sammie Conner. Sister-in-laws, Mary Mechaley Totten (Monte) and Evelyn Mechaley Market (Gene).
