Bette Jean Wakefield, 68, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Angel Oak Nursing Home in Socastee, South Carolina. She was born on September 26, 1957 in Medina, New York to the late Harley Edward Peters & Ruth Elaine Powley Peters.

Bette was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold and a zest for life. She worked in the hospitality industry for many years where she made life-long friends. Bette's outgoing personality led her to many jobs throughout her career but she favored her time spent as a bartender. In her free time, Bette found peace while walking the beach with her beloved k9 companion, Cooper. She enjoyed collecting shells and trinkets and especially more recently, Bette enjoyed helping her friend work a stall at Hudson's Flea Market in Garden City. In her free time, Bette enjoyed crafting, traveling and cheering on her adoring children and grandchildren. Above all else, Bette loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her quick wit, bright smile and the love she had for her family.

Left to cherish Bette's memory are her sons, Chad J. Wakefield his wife, Danielle and their children, Silas and Kayla of Tennessee & Chase J. Wakefield his wife, Kassie and their children, Riley, Cameron, Connor, William & Wyatt of Socastee; Bette's k9 companion and extra child, Cooper; brother, Dennis Peters and wife, Robin of Garden City; aunt, Gail; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Bette's life will be held at a later date. Those details will be announced when finalized.

At the request of the family, please consider an Act of Kindness in lieu of flowers.
