Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home - Sulphur SpringsMemorial service for Betty Jean (Bartlett) Smith, age 91, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Mount Olivet Chapel, 2301 N Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76111 with Graveside service to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Ms. Smith passed away at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Betty Jean Smith was born on April 11, 1934 in Plainview, Texas to Hilton and Annie Lee (Stark) Bartlett. She married Gayle Edward Smith in Groves, Texas on September 9, 1955. Betty Jean graduated from Lubbock High School and attended college at Texas Tech. She was the owner of B.J.’s Classy Glass. Betty Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
Betty Jean is survived by sons, Daniel Smith of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Clayton Smith (Kathy) of Southlake, Texas, Steve Smith (Donna) of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Thomas Smith (Greg Parsons) of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Danielle Berry (John), Whitney Hitchcock (Travis), Hayden Smith (Courtney), Scott Smith, Cole Smith, Brittany Smith, Luke Smith (Taelor), and Drake Smith; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Yarbrough (Dwight) of Lubbock, Texas; and sister-in law, Nancy Guthery of Buda, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Gayle Edward Smith; parents, Hilton and Annie Bartlett; sister, Margaret Robinson; and brother-in-law, Carlton Robinson of Plainview, Texas.
