Aberdeen – Betty Jo Gann Brewer, 81, passed away on August 12, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center – Gilmore in Amory, MS and she had a sweet reunion with all her family who went before her. She was born on July 16, 1943 in Hamilton, Alabama to the late John Gann and Newtie Morrison.
Betty Jo grew up in both Alabama and Illinois before settling in her later years in Mississippi. She worked for many years taking care of those who can’t take care of themselves. She was caring, kind, and so giving. Betty was employed at various nursing homes as well as at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Downey, Illinois. She was blessed by God during her lifetime with three children. She believed in the Lord and would often tell the story of how He spared her life on three different occasions in life and death situations. She was of the Baptist faith and her main pastor was none other than Pastor Jimmy Swaggart. Throughout her life, he seemed to speak directly to her and his message often helped her focus on God during tough times.
Raising her children and keeping a wonderful home was what she loved to do the most. Betty was talented and painted ceramic and enjoyed planting beautiful flowers. She loved listening to any sort of music but appreciated Gospel the most. When she got older, in addition to her direct family, she became close to her nieces. She smiled when reflecting on the different places that they took her on trips, including the beach and other great adventures. She was proud of having her three precious children in her life until their early passing from this life. Betty looked forward to the day when she was with them again and there is no doubt that there was a sweet reunion.
She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her daughter-in-law, Teresa Booton; grandchildren, Tasha Booton, TJ Booton (Samantha), Tabitha Walker and Kristi Carter; great-grandchildren, Ava Norton, Cora Carter, Ian Carter, Talea Hogan, Taytum Booton, Tara Shay Booton, Gracie Booton, Adelynn Booton, and Emberly Booton; nieces and nephews, Doris Muedini, Sharon Allred, Jimmy Allred (Peggy), Van Murphy, Beverly Ficca, Lamar Allred, and Stanley Allred; and her Southern Baptist Minister, Pastor Jimmy Swaggart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Donald Booton and Paul Brewer; three children, Julie Kay Pope, Teresa Lynn Phelps, and Anthony Theodore Booton; and grandson, Daniel Keith Norton.
