Derek Gray, a cherished resident of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on June 10, 1974, in Columbus, Mississippi, Derek was known for his warmth and deeply loving nature. He spent many fulfilling years as a residential painter, where his dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of coworkers and clients alike.
Derek was not only a skilled painter but also a devoted family man. His love for family was evident in the countless cookouts he organized, creating cherished memories for those he held dear. Derek's siblings were his closest friends, and together they shared laughter, support, and a bond that many could only aspire to have. He often reminisced about fishing trips with his father, Alton Gray, which became a beloved tradition they savored whenever the opportunity arose.
Derek's faith was an integral part of his life. A very loving and deeply religious person, he found comfort and guidance in the scriptures. He had a passion for gospel singing by the Anointed Family Group.
He is survived by his father, Alton Gray (Gail); his mother, Pamela Taylor Gray Wheeler (Stan); his beloved son, Derek Gray, Jr.; and another son, Blake Gray. He leaves behind his brothers: Stacey Gray (Lisa), Chris Gray (April), and Nicholas Shane Gray (Brigitte), along with his sister, Amanda Rowzee (Charly). Derek will also be lovingly remembered by his grandmother, Emma Gray, and his cherished grandchildren.
Derek's legacy will live on in the memories shared among family and friends, who will always remember his kindness, devotion to family, and joyous spirit. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alfred Gray.
A graveside service to honor Derek's life will be held on February 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Nettleton, MS, concluding at 3:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather as we celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man who embraced life with love and gratitude.
"We all love you, Son! and God Bless!"
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
