Betty Brookshire, age 94 of Madison, died Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Services will be 11:00AM Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Ellsworth Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service.
Betty L Schaikoski was born on November 1, 1930 in Canby, MN to Michael Schaikoski and Viola Nelson. She grew up in Lake Preston, SD and graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1948. Betty then went on to receive her Registered Nursing license from Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, MN. She married Jim Brookshire on April 18, 1952 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Betty worked at the Lake Preston Clinic and Hospital from 1952 until 1970; and part-time at the Madison clinic and Bethel Lutheran Home. She was also the secretary for American Family Insurance in Madison for over 30 years, working alongside her loving husband. Betty will be remembered for being an active community member. She had a deep love of ceramics and cooking for her family, especially her Beer Cheese Soup on Christmas. Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for multiple years.
Betty is survived by her two daughters: Jody (Stan Strong) Bossman of Wentworth; Jill (Wendell) Black of Sioux Falls; three grand-children: Laurie Bossman, Rebecca (Justin) Zeeb and Aaron (Alicia) Brookshire; two great grand-children: Jason Zeeb and Maci Brookshire. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael in 1998 and husband Jim in 2008.
