Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Alfson Obituary Kenny Ray Alfson, 84, of Madison, passed away September 21, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Memorial services will be at First Presbyterian Church in Wentworth on Friday, September 27 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery at Wentworth. Visitation will be Thursday, September 26 from 5 to 7 at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison, SD Kenny was born May 25, 1940, to Kenneth and Fern (Klassy) Alfson. He grew up in Rutland moving with his family into Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1959. On October 9, 1960, he married Joyce E. Hare at the First Presbyterian Church in Wentworth.
Together they raised 4 children, Susan Alfson, Thomas (Deb), Daniel (Misty) and Betsy Jonas, and enjoyed nearly 64 years of marriage. Kenny began his career in the elevator in Madison, followed by Ramona, managing the grain elevator in Baltic for 32 years. While in Baltic he was active in the fire department for 25 years eventually serving as chief and as a training officer. He was later selected as SD Fire Chief of the Year. He was an active South Dakota Fertilizer Ag Chemical Association member and served one year as president. He worked in several other elevators, including 12 years in Colton, eventually retiring 3 times and running his own consulting business. Kenny loved the grain business, fishing, and mowing his yard. He loved people. He was known for his tabasco and sunflower seeds and made the best popcorn. He hauled many loads of grain for his son Tom in his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, children, Susan, Tom (Deb) and Dan (Misty), 8 grandchildren, Kayla (Zac) Radunz, Nathan (Hannah) Winesburg, Sarah (TD) Sherman, John (Shae) Wallace, Lucas (Maddy) Wallace, Nicholas Wallace, Dakota Alfson, Libby Alfson, 7 great grandchildren, Ryker Wallace, Colton Radunz, Iralyn Wallace, Elijah Sherman, Caden Radunz, Hallie Sherman and Elsie Winesburg, two brothers, Don of California and Terry (Dee) of Oregon, and a sister-in-law, Ruthie (Rapid City) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Betsy and brother Robert (Bob.)
