Betty Brown Camp Tynes, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on September 11, 2025, in Calhoun, Louisiana, at the age of 92. A lifelong resident of Louisiana, Betty was born on September 30, 1932, in Choudrant, Louisiana to Willis H. Brown and Bessie B. Penuell.
A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Betty was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church in Calhoun. Her kindness, wit, and love for the Lord were evident to all who knew her. Though soft-spoken and an excellent listener, she had a delightful sense of humor that brought joy to those around her.
Betty found joy in life's simple pleasures-she was an avid reader who loved puzzles and watching birds from her front yard. In earlier years with her husband Jack by her side, she delighted in hosting family gatherings filled with warmth and laughter. Known for being the absolute best cook by those fortunate enough to sit at her table, Betty nourished not only bodies but hearts.
Betty graduated from Choudrant High School and went on to complete her education at Louisiana Business College. She dedicated much of her professional life to serving the Ouachita Parish School System. She began her career as a secretary and later became a bookkeeper for Calhoun Elementary/High School and West Ouachita High School, where she worked for many years with diligence and care.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; Willis H. Brown and Bessie B. Penuell and baby sister; stepfather Ralph Stedman Penuell Sr.; her beloved husband of 41 years, Jack Camp; sons Jack H. Camp and John S. Camp; second husband of seven years, Travis T. Tynes Sr.; sister and brother-in-law Martha B. Chandler and Levon Chandler; step-sisters Olline P. Cook and Elva Humphreys; step-brothers James V. Penuell and Ralph S. Penuell Jr.; sisters-in-law Kathryn Bayles, Polly Penuell, Ruby Lee Penuell, and Louise T. Fields; brothers-in-law Chester De Cuir, Gordon Lolley, Albert Bayles, Roy McCan, Leland Humphreys, Roland Cook, Artis M. Tynes, and Carl Fields.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Jeff Camp and his wife Debra Camp of West Monroe; daughter-in-law Sherry Camp of Calhoun; stepdaughter Barbara Lawrence and husband Rob; stepsons Travis Tynes Jr. and wife Ellen, Kenneth Tynes and wife Patti, John Tynes and wife Laurie, and Robert Tynes; grandchildren Alecia Camp, Lorianne and Jeff Soileau, Reese and Toni Michelle Camp, Meagan Camp; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
