Betty Carlisle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waite Funeral Home Medina on Feb. 10, 2026.
Betty Jane Carlisle, 76, of Hudson, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 13, 1949, in Medina, Ohio to the late Calvin Clifford Carlisle and Margaret Helen (Slader) Carlisle.

Betty is survived by her devoted daughter, Margaret Louise Comfort (Jerry Pickett); her beloved grandsons, Kane Douglas Comfort and Lucas Lee Comfort; and her cherished siblings, Calvin Carlisle (Martha Sergent), Tom Carlisle, Ray Carlisle, Robert Carlisle (Cheryl), and Helen Brown.

She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University and, inspired by her mother's lifelong career in nursing, later returned to school to pursue her own calling in healthcare. Betty became a registered nurse in 1987 and went on to serve her community with compassion and unwavering dedication for more than 36 years.

Betty possessed an ironclad work ethic and a heart for service. Over her lifetime she held many roles, beginning as bookkeeper for her family's business-Carlisle Construction. She never truly retired, always finding ways to care for others. For many years she served as a counselor at Parmadale Catholic Children's Village of St. Vincent de Paul, where she provided love, stability, and guidance to underprivileged and orphaned children. Countless lives were touched by her kindness in this role.

As a nurse, Betty was a fierce advocate for her patients. She believed deeply in the healing power of a gentle touch and encouraging words, and she was known for sitting at bedsides, holding hands, and offering comfort when it was needed most.

A loving single mother, Betty raised her bi-racial daughter during a time of social tension with grace and quiet strength. She chose love over division, living in a way that showed all people share a common humanity. She never spoke of differences, she simply embraced everyone she met.

Though she never thought of herself this way, Betty was a powerful woman - powerful in her ability to love, to heal, to make others laugh, and to put people at ease. She had a sharp wit and an honest tongue, delivering her thoughts in ways that were often hilarious, sometimes shocking, and always genuine.

Her life inspired her grandsons to pursue their own paths of healing, one through music, the other through medicine. Like her mother before her, Betty was an avid traveler and gardener. This past year her garden overflowed with vibrant blooms, bringing joy to neighbors throughout her little community.

Flowers are welcomed in honor of this wonderfully practical woman, as we embrace a touch of the impractical in saying goodbye. Alternately keeping with her love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Summit County, 752 West Portage Trail, Akron, Ohio.

May her memory be a blessing and a source of inspiration to all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's life on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio 44256. Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Eulogy and Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00 p.m. A reception will follow from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Wooden Nickel Bar, 965 Marks Rd., Valley City, OH 44280.

Betty was one of the best people and best nurses I have ever known. I worked with her in the main ER for years. She was dedicated and worked very hard. I loved working with her. She made me laugh and told the best stories. Betty was also a great support when you needed it. I am so sorry for your loss, but we were all so fortunate to have her in our lives. Prayers to all of you.

I worked with Betty at CCF Twinsburg ED when I was a medic going through nursing school. There wasn't a shift working nights where we didn't laugh or hear one of her stories from back when working with the best urologist in Cleveland or from her time working at Main Campus ED. But she also had the uncanny ability to make a grown man blush with a comment. Kane and Lucas, I can tell you that your grandmother was proud of you both as she always talked about you and kept us up to date. She will be missed greatly and the legacy she left behind will not be forgotten nor lost.

I worked with Betty for seven years at Main Campus in the CDU/night shift. She always made us laugh! She was so full of life and unforgettable. She had a mouth like a truck driver and a heart of gold. I am very sorry to hear about her passing. My condolences to her family.
Sincerely,

I worked with Betty for many years at CCF main campus. Betty was one of the hardest working women I ever met. She inspired me to be better. Betty could make me laugh to no end and we spent many hours working night shifts together. We also shared a love of reading and Betty was so well read in so many ways.
One morning on our way home from night shift, I was traveling behind her and being so bleary eyed and tired, I rear ended her on 55th street. We both got out of our cars and she told me she could care less about her car I had damaged and was more worried for my smashed car. This is how she was and I loved her for that.
Betty, I will miss you being in this world. Godspeed to a beautiful person.

Worked with Betty both at Main Campus & Twinsburg. She was one of a kind and devoted to nursing and a passion for so much more. I shall always remember the endless hours working with her, often as night owls. My condolences to all whose lives she touched.

Omg this is completely heartbreaking. She was so very spunky and fun to work with as a fellow nurse. She was tough, intelligent, fair, and an inspiration to everyone at CCF emergency. Wish we weren´t out of town this weekend. Love and sympathy to her family and friends! She ran triage like a well oiled broken machine!

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Betty at Twinsburg Education. She was truly a legend to those who knew her-someone who could make doctors blush, share incredible stories, and provide exceptional care for her patients.

She deeply loved her animals, her coworkers, and her work. I remember when she retired and moved to Hudson specifically to ensure she could keep her beloved dogs. She will be greatly missed by all of us who loved her in return.
