Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gerald W Vickery Jr Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. on Aug. 28, 2025.
After 103 years of a beautiful full life Betty Earle Chilson passed away on August 26,2025 at her home in Port St. Lucie, FL surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by daughters Honey Chilson (Palm City, FL) and Allie (Gary) Milligan (Port St. Lucie, FL). Surviving grandchildren: Brad (Kelly) Harrison, Kelly (Chris) St. Pierre, Honey Kimber; great grandchildren: Hope, Hattie, and Hudson Harrison, Sara St. Pierre, Skyler Kimber, Abigail Adams, and Oliver Glover.
Betty was born in Mainesburg, PA on February 28, 1922, daughter of Bessie and Henry Chamberlain. She married the love of her life, Tony Chilson, in 1943. They moved to Troy PA where they were both in business for many years-Tony owned Chilson's Barber Shop, and Betty owned Chilson's Beauty Shop, which she ran out of the family home. Her cherished husband, Tony, preceded her in death in 1983. She was the caregiver for her mother who passed away in 1984.
After leaving the beauty business, Betty never seemed to "retire." She was active in her church (Troy Methodist) singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. She also served on a church mission in South Carolina. She was a care giver for those in the Troy community who needed help as well as volunteering to play the keyboard at the County Home. She became a foster grandparent at the Croman Elementary School where she served many years and was lovingly referred to as "Granny C."
In 2013 she moved from her beloved Troy to Florida to live with her daughter and husband (Allie and Gary Milligan) who cared for her for over a decade. She spent her remaining years enjoying family time with both daughters (Honey and Allie) , as well as Gary Milligan, who provided a loving, well-deserved support system. Also living in the area to cherish time with her was her grandson Brad, who with his wife Kelly, hosted many fun family dinners at his country club which she so enjoyed.
Betty had a great sense of humor. A kind spirit. Loved her family and animals. And especially chocolate. She was active after a century, enjoying dining out with family and pleasant weekly tropical car rides accompanied by 50s music (her request). Her faith was most important to her and sustained her throughout her life. Her family feels blessed that they could share her long life with her. She was a beloved and kind mother, grandmother, a good friend and a true Christian. Her life lessons will continue to bless her family.
