Betty E. Cowden, age 82, of Pennington Gap, VA went to be with the Lord Friday evening, August 29, 2025 while at the Norton Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 12, 1943 in Floyd County, Virginia a daughter of the late Versie Aldridge Mitchell. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a retired Registered Nurse having received her degree from Bluefield Community College. She started her career at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and later came to Pennington Gap, VA and served the community for over 40 years at the Lee County Community Hospital.
She is survived by a son; William D. Cowden of Pennington Gap, VA Daughter; Rebecca A. Cowden of Jonesville, VA
Grandchildren; Abel E. Cowden of Jonesville, VA and Eli J. Cowden of Pennington Gap, VA
1 Brother; Melvin Mitchell (Marge) Tucson, Arizona
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members along with a host of friends and former work family.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 5 until 7 at the Pennington Gap Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 7PM in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Paul Davis, Jr and Pastor Steve Neff officiating.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 1 PM at Hillside Cemetery, Jonesville, VA. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home Thursday at 12 noon to go in procession to the cemetery. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
