Betty Ezelle Cox, 92, of Laurens, and wife of the late Thomas "Tom" Andrew Cox, Sr., passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at National Healthcare Mauldin.
Betty was born on October 24, 1932, to the late Oliver Lyle Ezelle and Martha Cornelia Caldwell Ezelle Owings. She worked for Judge Hewlette Wasson, Laurens Glass, St. Joe Paper, in sales at G.E., and retired from Edward D. Jones. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church Laurens where she was a member of the CWAs and the Lurlene Steele Bible Class. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Laurens County Hospital. Betty was fond of rescuing cats, had a wonderful giving heart, and deeply loved her community and being around people.
She is survived by children, Teresa Asman and Rev. Tommy Cox, Jr. (Kena); grandchildren, Sarah Asman Stallings (Bryce), Jenni Asman, Kelsey Cox Turner (Gabriel), and Kailey Cox McCall (Justin); great grandchildren, Lily Stallings and Walker and Mason Turner, nieces and nephews, David and Tony Cox, Bill Lanford, Beth Lollis, and Jackie Hunter.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a sister, Linda Lanford and a stepfather, Dorroh Owings.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church Laurens, conducted by Rev. Tim Marsh and Rev. Dr. Bev T. Kennedy, Jr. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
Memorials may be made to Laurens County Humane Society, 793 Poplar St., Clinton, SC 29325 or First Baptist Church NC Missions, 300 W Main St., Laurens, SC 29360.
The family would like to thank NHC of Mauldin and Unit 3 staff for their compassionate care of Betty during her extended illness.
The family will be at the home of her son, Tommy Cox, 304 Woodbluff Road, Laurens.
