Betty Jean Gaddis Engel, 89, of Jacksonville passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. She was born March 20, 1936 to the late James and Ada Massey Matlock. Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Clarence Gaddis; her later husband, Bill Engel; and siblings, William Matlock, James (JL) Matlock, Lewis Matlock, Bertha Nowell, Jerry Watkins, James Matlock, and June Davig.

Betty dedicated many years to serving with the Boy Scouts. Her presence was a gift to those she worked alongside. At home, Betty was a talented cook and a devoted homemaker. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals, and her home was a place where everyone felt welcomed and loved. Her family will forever cherish the memories created around her table.

A faithful member of McArthur Drive church of Christ for many years, Betty lived her life guided by her faith. She found joy in fellowship and serving others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish Betty's memory are her children, Gene Gaddis and Reba (Donnie) Danner; granddaughter, Rachel Danner; great-grandson, Xander; siblings, Judy Hatmaker and Jennifer Matlock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Augusta, Arkansas.
