Jeanette A Engel

With sadness and great love the family of Jeanette A. Engel of Cortlandt Manor, announce her death on November 17, 2025. She was 87 years old.
Jeanette was born on September 4, 1938 to Albert and Florence Henderson in Queens, NY. She graduated from John Adams High School and received her RN from Queens General Hospital School of Nursing. On August 1, 1959 she married her one true love, Noel S. Engel, who sadly passed away in 1995. Her older sister, Florence Blanford also pre-deceased her in 2022.
Jeanette lived in Cortlandt Manor for over 60 years. A caring and dedicated nurse, she worked at Peekskill Hospital but spent the majority of her career as head nurse for skilled nursing at the Cortlandt Nursing Care Center. There she mentored fellow staff, engaged with patients and treated all with dignity and respect.
At home, Jeanette stayed busy running the household and enjoyed cooking, baking and making costumes for various events including Halloween, school plays and spirit days at work. In later years she loved to putter in her gardens, text with her grandchildren and travel with her sister and friends. Whether truffle hunting in Italy, seeing the Russian Ballet perform or hearing the Tattoo in Edinburgh her travel stories were filled with her trademark laughter and sense of adventure. She will be remembered for her good humor, generous nature and all those delicious cookies and breads.
Jeanette is survived by her daughters; Patti Engel of Frederick MD, Karin Gehringer (Scott) of Taylorsville, NC and Susan McIntyre (Steve) of Stormville, NY. She is also survived by her devoted nieces, Jen Svanda and Laura Blanford and a nephew. Lifetime friends, Janet Junz, Barbara Troop, Barbara Troy and Kit Nelson will miss her greatly. In addition, her brother in law, Hale Engel and his wife Paula will miss Jeanie sharing fond memories over seven decades.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Katy Beach (Matt) of Frederick, MD, Gregory Sambrana of Germantown, MD, Jon Robertie of Wilmington, NC, Travis Robertie of Concord, NC, Genevieve Robertie (Michael Cassese) currently serving in South Korea and Allison McIntyre of Brooklyn, NY, Brennan McIntyre of Philadelphia, PA, and Caroline McIntyre of Stormville, NY.
In addition, Adelyn and Avery Beach will deeply miss "GreatGramma".
Jeanette was a long time congregant of Shrub Oak United Methodist Church in Shrub Oak, NY. Family and friends will gather at the church for visitation at 10:00 am on Saturday November 22nd followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am led by Pastor Sandra Mantz. Interment immediately following the service at Hillside Cemetery, 1033 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor.
In Lieu of flowers the family kindly suggests contributions to United Methodist Church at Shrub Oak Memorial Fund or a charity of your choosing
