Obituary of Eileen Dilley

Eileen McGuire Dilley, 83, of Maplewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 15.

Born in Peekskill, New York, Eileen was the daughter of the late Thomas McGuire and Florence Borecky. She made her home in Maplewood for more than five decades, becoming a beloved and familiar presence in the community she cherished.

Eileen earned her Associate's Degree from the Tobé-Coburn School of Fashion Careers in New York City. After graduation, she worked as a stylist for fashion photographers and soon became the youngest manager of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York-an accomplishment she remained immensely proud of.

In 1963, Eileen married the love of her life, John Dilley. They were wed at the West Point Cadet Chapel, where they joyfully returned 50 years later to renew their vows. During the early years of their marriage, Eileen and John devoted themselves to military life, moving 14 times in 9 years as part of their service to the U.S. Army. In 1973, they chose Maplewood as the place to raise their family and build a true hometown, and it remained their treasured residence ever since.

Eileen and John shared a rare and enduring love - the kind most people only read about in storybooks. Their bond was the steady center of their family's life and remained a source of joy, strength, and devotion throughout their 63 years together.

For more than 48 years, Eileen owned and operated Bee & Thistle Antiques in Maplewood. Through her shop, she cultivated lasting friendships and became known for her discerning eye, her love of history, and her appreciation for beauty in all forms. Her customers were more than patrons-they were part of a community she nurtured with warmth and grace.

Eileen was predeceased by her son, John Dilley III.

She is survived by her devoted husband, John H. Dilley Jr.; her daughter, Erin Davis, and her husband, John; her granddaughter, Molly McGuire Davis; and her daughter in law, Maggie Dilley.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. For additional information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com.
