Betty Jo Evans, age 69 of Steelville, MO, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on August 10, 1956, in
St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up between St. Louis and Rolla. She graduated from Rolla High School in 1975.
While working at the Rolla Nursing Home, she met the love of her life, Barry Evans. The two were married in May of 1977 and built a life centered on family, hard work, and love. Together they raised three children-JoAnn, Shantell, and Barry-and later moved to Cuba, Missouri, where they made their home and raised their family.
Betty Jo dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Missouri Veterans Home for 13 years before continuing her career at Cuba Manor, and later Gibbs Nursing Home, where she eventually retired. Her compassion, work ethic, and commitment to her residents left a lasting impression on those she cared for and worked alongside.
In her free time, Betty Jo enjoyed skating, spending time at the river, tending to their animals, and traveling. She loved scrapbooking and taking pictures, always preserving memories of her family and adventures. She found joy in everyday routines-especially trips to Walmart-and loved cooking and baking for her family. She was especially known for her spaghetti and mashed potatoes, favorites among those who knew her.
Betty Jo was an avid movie collector and proudly had a room full of VHS tapes. She also enjoyed collecting Betty Boop, horses, and Scooby-Doo items. She loved playing the game Aggravation and marbles, often sharing laughter and friendly competition with family.
Above all else, Betty Jo cherished her family and the life she built with Barry. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her husband of 48 years, Barry Evans of Steelville, MO; her children, JoAnn Southard of St. Robert, MO, Shantell Evans of Jacksonville, FL, and Barry Evans of Steelville, MO, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren (and two more on the way); one brother, Billy Jameson and wife Diane of Darby, MT, her fur baby, Jabbi, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Jameson and 3 siblings: Minnie, Jeanette, and David.
No services are planned at this time.
