It is with a heavy heart that our family shares the loss of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Betty Anna Hedgespeth was born July 7, 1941 in Princeton, Illinois to Ansel and Ruth (Powers) Alm. Betty passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023 in Loveland, Colorado surrounded by her children and many close family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronald G. Hedgespeth, her parents, brother A. Lee Alm and sister Jean Marliere. Surviving are son Timothy (Beth) Hedgespeth of Loveland, Colorado, son Todd (Shelly) Hedgespeth of New Port Richey, Florida, daughter Jillana Wilson of Monmouth, Illinois and daughter Jaye Hedgespeth of Loveland, Colorado, her 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and brother Dennis Alm.
Betty was very intelligent. Only using pens for crosswords because the answers were always correct. Her ability to answer Jeopardy questions was amazing. Betty had many pets in her life. More like family members than pets. She loved them all. She was adventurous as she parasailed over the gulf and enjoyed cruises with her husband and friends. Betty was an artist, created beautiful and detailed paintings, and she was fond of acquiring expensive pieces of art, jewelry and furniture at yard sales and bragging about how thrifty she was. She loved to bowl. Bowling in leagues for almost 50 years, competing in the Women's National Tournament 40 times and winning the local Women's Masters Tournament twice, traveling all over the United States and overseas acquiring knowledge through her experiences, and always had a roadmap to guide her. Her quick wit, uncanny memory and strong opinions made for great conversation. She instilled the love of learning and knowledge she had in all of her children. Betty now joins her husband in heaven, probably with an atlas in hand, watching over her family.
Betty will be greatly missed.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am May 18, 2024 at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Princeton, IL. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
