Betty Hostrawser Obituary

Betty Jean Hostrawser, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.
Born on March 8, 1945, in Chicago, Betty was the daughter of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Smith) Harvey. On June 3, 1967, in Valparaiso, she married the love of her life, John Hostrawser. Together they shared 58 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Betty's life was marked by kindness, compassion, and an unwavering love for her family, church, and community. She was a longtime member of Walkerton Community Church (formerly Walkerton United Methodist Church), where her faith was a constant source of strength and joy. She also served her community through her involvement in Tri-Kappa and as a dedicated member of the Walkerton Library Board.
A passionate animal lover, Betty adored her dog Sam and had a special place in her heart for rescue animals, adopting her last two dogs from the humane society.
Above all, Betty treasured her family. She is survived by her loving husband John; her three sons: William (Deana Fugate) Hostrawser, Peter (Suzi) Hostrawser, and Brent (Vanessa) Hostrawser; and her cherished grandchildren: Henry, Audrey, Randy, and Brent Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Pat Gumns.
A Memorial Service celebrating Betty's life will be held at 3 p.m. EDT on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Walkerton Community Church, 1001 Georgia Street, Walkerton, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walkerton Community Church or the Marshall County Humane Society-two causes close to Betty's heart.
The Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel is honored to be entrusted with Betty's care and arrangements.
Betty will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her warm heart, and the countless lives she touched through her love and service.

John and Family, The loss of Betty is Great a Loss, but John, Family, and Us, will see her again when we go Home to God. Remember She is in all our hearts to all who knew her, she had her way of blessing her spirit onto and into us with her presence and way Betty Loved All. I will think of her every time I look at her spot in Church, will miss her greeting, big hug, and conversation, until I see her in Heaven. I was her smuckman, for all the laughs and pranks we had with one another over the years. I will miss Betty Greatly, Love that Lady and you John, Thanks for sharing Betty and Yourself with us all.
