Betty Jean Jenkins (Howell), age 90, of Auburndale, Florida, passed away on Saturday, November 15th, 2025. She was born on January 5th, 1935, in Cottonwood, Alabama to the late John Ross Howell and Maddie Green (Hall).
Betty spent her early childhood in Alabama before moving to Auburndale, Florida where she built a life grounded in family, faith, and hard work. After graduating from high school in 1953, she began her career with Publix Super Markets. She proudly served her community there for 37 years until her retirement. She was known for her strong work ethic, her kindness, and her warm familiar smile.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a longtime member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Auburndale. She loved her church family and remained steadfast in her devotion throughout her life.
Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, but most of all spending time with family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maddie Green Howell; her beloved husband Lezell "Pete" Jenkins; her son Larry Paul Jenkins; her grandson, Keith Dewayne Weitman; and her siblings, Mary, James, and Hulon.
Betty is survived by her children: Charles A. Jenkins (Debra) and Wanda J. Weitman (Wayne); her daughter in law: Candida L. Jenkins; her grandchildren: Brian P. Jenkins (Dollie), Loren N. Jenkins (Drake), and Taylor E. Driggers (Austin); and her great grandchildren: Gavin J. Grigg and Lucas C. Grigg. She also leaves behind extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Betty lived a long, full life marked by devotion to her family and a gentle, steady presence that brought comfort to all who knew her. She was the heart of every room, always ready with a smile and a story. Blessed with a social spirit, she never met a stranger and made everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
