Betty Jo Icenhour, age 74, went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2023, at her home. She was born April 17, 1949, in Mountain City, TN to the late DeVon and Ruby Louise Eller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Icenhour; sister, Sandy Proffitt and her infant son, Richard; mother-in-law, Hedwig Icenhour; brothers-in-law, Steven Michael Icenhour, Larry Icenhour, David Icenhour, Willis Walker and sister-in-law, Judy Icenhour.
Jo was a warm and friendly person who was loved by everyone she knew. She was a very devoted wife and mother, raising two sons with Delmer, her husband of nearly fifty years. She became a Christian as a young adult and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was active until just a few weeks ago. Jo was also known as an excellent cook, who greatly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends as well as her church. She had many interests and pastimes, but her greatest joy in this life was her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories include her sons, Kevin Icenhour and wife Amanda, Michael Icenhour and wife Jennifer; sister, Jean Walker; brothers, Tommy Eller, Danny Eller and wife Carolyn; grandchildren, Emilie Fenner and husband Payton; Ethan Icenhour and girlfriend Bailey, Ella Icenhour; step-grandchildren, Ben and Ezra Howard; brothers-in-law, Roger Icenhour (Vicki), Jimmy Ray Icenhour, Rodney Icenhour; special childhood friend, Maxine Arnold; special niece, Andrea and husband Billy Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral at Reece Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ethan Icenhour, Payton Fenner, Ezra Howard, Ben Howard, Frank Icenhour, and Billy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Gambill, Jimmy Ray “Spook” Icenhour, Roger Icenhour, and Gary Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 1288 Cold Springs Rd. Mountain City, TN 37683.
