Mrs. Betty Lou Johnson, age 95, our loving, devout, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Covenant Glen in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Betty was born in Fairgrove, Michigan on August 1, 1928, to parents Rolan & Gladys (McCreedy) Layer. She was raised alongside her siblings, Lyle and Marilyn. Betty wed Donald Johnson on July 10, 1948, and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing in 1998. After graduating high school with the class of 1946, Betty began work with Bell Telephone Company in Flint. Further, she was a member of Millington United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She also taught vacation bible school, children ministries, and held many positions in the women’s group at church. Betty was also a member of the Eastern Star and was involved in the Millington-Arbela Historical Society. In 2014, Betty was proudly awarded Millington’s “Most Honored Citizen”. Above all, Betty loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her children: Dale Johnson, Bruce (Linda) Johnson, and Patty Morgan; grandchildren: Tyson Morgan, Erik (Sarah) Morgan, Daniell Morgan, Jordana (Jamie) Timmerman, Spencer (Chelsea) Johnson, Alex (Erica) Johnson, Adam (Catie) Johnson, Joseph Johnson; great-grandchildren: Bella, Olyvia, Joseph, Ronald, Eden, Eli, Kylie, Khloe, Klair, Rowan, and Reid; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, Gary Johnson; grandson, Evan; daughter-in-law, Rebecca; brother, Lyle Layer; and sister, Marilyn Fessler.
Betty’s family will welcome visitors to Hanlin Funeral Home – Millington on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services for Betty will be at the Millington United Methodist Church on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 11 a.m.; additional visitation at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Following, Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband, Donald, in Millington Twp. Cemetery.
