West Rutland - Betty A. Johnson Betty A. (Peterson) Johnson 90, died Saturday July 12, 2025 at Mountain View Center in Rutland after a brief illness. She was born July 29, 1934 in Proctor, VT the daughter of Edwin and Irene (Moran) Peterson. Betty attended grade school and Proctor High School graduating with class of 1953. Upon graduation she was employed by the Vermont Marble Company and the Vermont Marble Exhibit. She married Edward Ned Johnson on May 14, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Proctor, VT. They had 39 years of a blessed marriage. Betty was the secretary for her husband at Peerless Rubber Stamp and Engraving Company in West Rutland for over 15 years. She was continuously involved with the West Rutland Ladies Auxiliary Post # 87; she was a member for 63 plus consecutive years conducting many hours of volunteer work pertaining to the National Poppy Program. Betty maintained her vegetable and flower gardens at her residence throughout her life, getting many accolades from friends and strangers alike. She also enjoyed preserving the fruits of her labor with canning and drying. She was in attendance to her grandchildren's many sporting events through the years. She proved herself independent after the passing of her husband by maintaining the grounds and firewood. She was a consistent organizer and attendee at the annual J & J summer party for 25 years. Many people will always talk about the energy she had and make the statement "I hope I can do that at her age" She is survived by her sons, Tracy Johnson (Lori),of Springfield, VT, Wayne Johnson(Courtney), of Brandon, VT and Kevin Johnson (Diahn), of West Rutland, VT. By her 9 grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Morgan, Emily, Cera, Isaia, Kieran, Jordan and Grady. By her 6 great- grandchildren, Oscar, Calvin, Ted, Mason, Jase and Geo. Also by her sister Helen Savery (Richard), of Wallingford, VT. She was predeceased by her parents, by her husband Edward Ned Johnson on March 13, 1994, by her siblings, Jean Donaghey, Ruth Ferguson, Ralph Peterson, Robert Peterson, Herman Peterson, Donald Peterson, Roy Peterson, Paul Peterson and Chester Peterson. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 23, 2025 at 11 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rutland. Visiting hours will at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church from 10 A.M. until the time of the Service at 11 A.M. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph on Thursday July 24, 2025 at 9 A.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the West Rutland American Legion Auxiliary Unit # 87. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.
