Betty Gambrell Jones passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the age of 92, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born on May 7, 1933, in Belzoni, Mississippi, to Emmett and Annie Gambrell.
A graduate of both Northeast College and Louisiana State University, Betty earned her master’s degree and made an impact in the field of education. Her career as a teacher spanned from 1963 to 1998 in East Baton Parish, which was followed by her time at South Walker Elementary School in Livingston Parish for nearly 2 decades.
Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, and wife. She took joy in spending time with loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Jones Cleveland, and husband, Steven; son, Ted Jones Jr. and wife, Debbie Capone Jones; grandchildren, Bronson Jones, Britton Jones and wife, Valerie, Cody Cleveland and wife, Jana Turner Cleveland, Clayton Cleveland and wife, Katie Mack Cleveland. She was a great-grandmother to Sadie Blanchard, Maddox Jones, Karson Jones, Palmer Grace Cleveland, Clayton Mack Cleveland, and Case Michael Cleveland. Betty is additionally survived by her nephew, Carroll Barron, and nieces, Paula Tarver and Sandy Tarver.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ted Alton Jones; parents, Emmett W. Gambrell and Annie Tom Rogers; siblings, Ann Gambrell Barron, Sara Gambrell Tarver, Rebecca Sue Gambrell, Don Gambrell, and Emmett William Gambrell; and niece, Melanie Barron.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by inurnment at Roselawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to give special thanks to all friends and family who were a part of her journey. Thank you to Home Instead Senior Care, and In His Care Hospice.
