Betty Evelyn Nelson, affectionately called "Betty Boop," a beacon of kindness and creativity, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 96 in Rockwall, Texas. Born on September 19, 1929, in Orange, California, Betty's life was marked by her dedication to her family, her passion for the arts, and her unwavering spirit of generosity. The greatest day in her life was when she met her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She testified of Him all the remaining days of her life.

Daughter of the late Claude Augustus Word and Dessie Helena Holden, Betty grew up in a household where love and laughter were abundant. She was the cherished sister of Blanch, Helen, May, Howard, and Eunice, all of whom predeceased her. Betty married Robert M. Nelson Sr. on March 14, 1959, in Whittier, California. Together, they built a life filled with joy and purpose until Robert's passing in 1999.

Betty's legacy lives on through her beloved children: Claudeia Ann Grigor and her husband John, Richard Harold Peabody and his wife Sylvia, Dennis Donald Peabody and his wife Ada, Lloyd Dean Nelson, and Robert Malcolm Nelson Jr. and wife Erin. She was the proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren and the matriarch to a lineage that includes over 21 great-grandchildren and multiple great-great-grandchildren. Her numerous nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart.

Betty's life was characterized by her exceptional skills as a master seamstress. Her artistry extended to her role as an award-winning antique replica doll artist. She also found joy in designing computer greeting cards, combining her eye for beauty with her fascination with technology. Her commitment to serving others was evident through her volunteer work at Lake Pointe Hospital and Lakeshore Church in Rockwall, Texas. In all her roles, Betty was a dedicated homemaker, ensuring that her family was nurtured in a home filled with love and care.

Her interests were as varied as they were passionate. Betty enjoyed dancing to the rhythms of life, singing melodies that uplifted the spirit, and tending to her garden, where she cultivated beauty both in flora and in life. Her love for fashion modeling allowed her to express her elegance and grace. Betty's adventurous spirit shone through her love of travel, exploring new places, and embracing different cultures. Above all, her love for her family was her most cherished treasure, guiding every step she took and every decision she made.

Betty was best described as loving-a word that encapsulates her essence. Her kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. She was a source of strength, a wellspring of wisdom, and a confidante to many. As we bid farewell to Betty, we celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest. She was fondly known as "The Glitter Queen." Her memory will be cherished for generations to come.
