Luis "Lucio" Amaro Tovar, age 64, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away on October 29, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Luis was born on December 15, 1960, in Tanquito de Banda, Cerritos, San Luis Potosí, México, to José Inés Tovar and Rita Amaro. Luis came from humble beginnings in rural Mexico, where he was raised by his grandparents. Though his childhood was marked by hardship, he faced every challenge with grit and perseverance. In time, he emigrated to the United States, determined to build a better life for himself and his family. He often spoke fondly of his early years, of playing outside with friends and family, enjoying the outdoors, and finding joy in the simple moments of life in Mexico. This was something that brought him a deep sense of pride.

Luis was a machinist by trade and retired from Special Products & Manufacturing in Rockwall, Texas, after nearly 25 years of service. He was a loyal employee who valued hard work and dedication, earning perfect attendance for 16 years at the company. During his time at SP&M, he helped train others and was loved by many. After his retirement, he remodeled the first home that he and his wife shared and started a successful landscaping business. Luis was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista de Rowlett, where he served as a deacon and was lovingly known as "el Hermano Tovar." He faithfully served as a pillar of his congregation for many years, wearing many hats: treasurer, groundskeeper, leader, van driver, handyman, and more.

Luis met his loving wife, Maricela, in 1979, and they were married on October 23, 1982. They built a beautiful life and home in Rockwall, Texas, rooted in love and founded in Christ. Luis was a devoted husband to Maricela, patient father to Luis "Michael" and Rita, and adoring Paw Paw to Axel, Eden, Luca, Enrique, and Lilia Inés. He enjoyed being outside and working with his hands; he took pride in maintaining his home and loved tending to his pepper plants. Luis was a lover of spicy peppers, growing many varieties at home, preparing jars to share with friends, and never leaving the house without some in hand. Luis was a runner who kept to a strict routine of three runs a week. He always prioritized his health and fitness. He enjoyed spending time visiting his children and grandchildren in Denton, TX, always showing up to games and performances. Luis enjoyed traveling and would regularly visit family in Mexico whenever possible. He had recently acquired his dual citizenship and was looking forward to spending more time in Mexico in the years to come.

Luis is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maricela Tovar; his children Luis Tovar and Rita Tovar; his daughter-in-law Anna Tovar; his grandchildren Axel Tovar, Eden Tovar, Luca Tovar, Enrique Bruton, and Lilia Inés Bruton; his brothers Juan Tovar, Inés Tovar and his sisters Elvira Resendiz (Tovar) and Maria Tovar; and many others that adored him.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 am at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall, Texas. There will be a public visitation at 9:00 am, followed by the service at 10:00 am. The burial will be private, for family and close friends only.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a special memory of Luis in a letter or by email.
