Anita Irene Johnson

Anita Irene Johnson, 74, of Hunt County, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 10, 1951, in Greenville, Texas, to Ollie Owen and Thelma Irene Smith, and called Hunt County home her entire life.

Anita was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was defined by family, love, faith, and service to others. A lifelong follower of Christ, she was a longtime member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church and, in recent years, attended Vansickle Baptist Church with her husband, Philip, where they continued to grow in faith together.

Anita and Philip were married on August 25, 1972, at First Baptist Church in Quinlan, and shared more than 53 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and family. Together they raised three children, Candlelynn, Amber, and John, and her six grandchildren were her greatest joy.

For much of her career, Anita worked at E-Systems (later Raytheon and L-3 Communications) and later as a consultant for Comcept in Rockwall. Upon retiring, she embraced the role she cherished most, being "Grammie." Caring for her family was her greatest calling, and she poured her heart into making sure everyone was loved and cared for unconditionally.

Anita was known for her green thumb, her sewing talent, and her incredible cooking, carrying on a family tradition started by her mother, Thelma. She also loved to travel with Philip, exploring the country and sharing new adventures with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gerald Wayne Smith, and her niece Cindy Toland. She is survived by her husband, Philip Johnson; daughters Candlelynn Coats and Amber Johnson (Jeff); son John Johnson; six grandchildren, Julie, Alan, Jeremy, Camden, Christian, and Kimber; her sister Dorinda, and brothers David and Kenneth.

Anita will be remembered for her quiet grace, steadfast faith, loving heart, and the joy she brought to everyone around her.
