Mrs. Betty June Wright Ocker, age 83, of Tallapoosa, GA, passed away December 27, 2024. She was born April 2, 1941 in Carrollton, GA to the late Benjamin Earl Wright and Ima Lee Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Joseph Lee Ocker; sister, Joann Mann; and sister in law, Nell Wright.
Betty graduated from West Haralson High School in 1959 and shortly after married her beloved husband, Joe. This began a wonderful, adventurous, and fulfilling life for them. Joe's career took them all over the country and allowed them to live in and experience many different places. Together they were wonderful parents to their three daughters.
After their daughters were grown, Betty went back to school to become a nurse. She worked as an LPN at Tanner Medical Center for 42 years, retiring in 2019. She was a loving nurse, who often ran into her patients anywhere she went. They would sing her praises and remind her that she was their favorite nurse. This dedicated bedside manner awarded her Tanner's Nurse of the Year during her tenure there.
Betty was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church and a devoted grandmother. While she was able, she made every effort to attend all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's events. She was a blessing to everyone she met and especially her family. Her presence will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Donna and Danny Johnson, of Buncombe, GA, Robin and Brett Jones, and Carol Ann Robinson, all of Tallapoosa; grandchildren, Johnathon Ocker (Jenna), Ashley Robinson Johnson, Samantha Golden (Brad), and Ben Robinson; great grandchildren, Madison Johnson, Chance Johnson, Bentley Ocker, Brenley Ocker, Bristol Golden, and Ryder Golden; sister and brothers, in law, Carolyn and Bobby Robinson, of Vidalia, GA and Curtis Mann, of Tallapoosa; brother, Harold "Shorty" Wright, of Bremen, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 at 3:00PM at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Casey officiating. Music will be provided by Nancy Allen, Johnny Wright, Madison Johnson and Samantha Golden. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Johnathon Ocker, Neal Robinson, Ben Robinson, Brad Golden, Scott Mann, Tony Pope, Neal Adams, and Bentley Ocker. Her great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Antioch Church Cemetery with Rev. Kevin McAdams officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00PM.
