Betty Plaunt, age 100, passed peacefully on Wednesday October 22, 2025 surrounded by family. Betty was born on September 22, 1925, in Superior, WI, the youngest of six children of Mike & Anna Christianson.

After growing up in Superior, she became a nurse, completing her training at Saint Lukes Hospital. That career ended after her marriage to James A. Plaunt in 1952, and the appearance of children.

A loving mother and wife, she instilled in her children a love of the outdoors.

Golfer- Betty had a lifelong love of golfing, and she filled the dining room with trophies from Ridgeview and Northland Country Clubs. She won the City Championship in 1957 while pregnant with son Steve, and the Women's Championship at Northland in 1965 &1971. Betty & Jim won the Mr. & Mrs. Title at Northland in 1969,1970 &1981. She golfed well into her 90s.

Outdoors woman- Never one to sit still or be inactive, she loved many outdoor activities including fishing, logging many adventures into the Boundary Waters and also out on Lake Superior in search of game fish. She maintained a garden for years and loved to dig into the soil and watch things grow and was a member of the Duluth Garden Club. After moving to a townhouse, she shared her garden energy with friends at their homes.

She also sang in the choir at Chester Park United Methodist Church for many years as well as participating in the women's guild activities like baking pies for Chester Park's roast beef dinners.

Preceded in death by her husband James in 1990, parents Mike & Anna, siblings Jeanette, Eleanor, John, Carol and Helen, and grandson James.

Survivors include her children Michael (Maureen) of Superior, Jim (Marianne) of Dexter, Michigan, Steve (Lori) of Hopkins, and Sue Mueller (Jon) of Champlin. Her 11 Grandchildren include Nathan, David, Kelsey, Adam, Jason, Rebecca, Brian, Kaitlin, Anna, Eleanor and Eric, plus 12 great-grandchildren.
