Betty Sue Rainey, beloved wife, stepmother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on December 26, 2025, after bravely facing cancer with grace and strength.

Mrs. Rainey born July 8, 1946, in Comanche, Texas, to Ernest and Merlene Welch.

Sue will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith whose kindness and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a faithful member Georgetown Baptist Church Pottsboro, Texas. Her hope was in Jesus Christ and talked often about meeting her savior. Her passions included traveling abroad, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She competed in cooking contests at the State Fair of Texas for 40 years. Sue always loved to share her baking and cooking talents with others. This was her true love language. She truly cared for her friends and strangers that crossed her path in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David "Doc" Rainey; father, Ernest Welch; mother, Merlene Welch; brothers, Wade Welch and Joe Welch; nephew, Brian Welch; father-in-law, David Rainey; and mother-in-law, Tina Rainey.

Sue is survived by her niece, Christine Welch McGrew (Nathan) and nephew William Welch (Deanna); stepson, Ken Nelson (Jessie); sisters-in-law, Deborah Whitaker and Donna Crow (Barry); nieces and nephews - Cherita Welch, David Bruno, Richard Dunn, Christena Crow Mejia, Knox Belcher, Grant Belcher, Brie Crum; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Mrs. Rainey will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro, Texas. Interment will follow at Locust Cemetery in Pottsboro. Family and friends will gather to visit one hour prior to service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be William Welch, Aiden Welch, Nathan McGrew, David Bruno, Grant Belcher, and Rod Dunn.

In lieu of flowers, Sue requested donations be made to the Stilwell Retirement Home in Waco, Texas or to your local "No Kill" animal shelter.

Sue will be missed. Although many miles separated her and I we always tried to speak several times a year. She was a chef and baker and I was glad to be present when she met Julia Childs and was presented her award for the best cake ever .
