Betty Sandstead Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heer Mortuaries & Crematory - Brush on Jun. 13, 2025.
Betty Joan Sandstead, age 75, of Brush, Colorado, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025. Born on February 7, 1950, in Sterling, Colorado. Betty was the beloved daughter of Robert and Ruth Henry.
She remained a lifelong Colorado resident who brought joy and warmth to all who knew her. Betty graduated from Haxtun High School and later married her first husband, Don Cucarola, in 1969. Together, they had one daughter, Crickett.
On July 9, 2005, Betty found love again and married her devoted husband, Mike Sandstead. The two shared a deep bond and many meaningful years together. Betty had a special connection with nature and found peace in long country drives. She was known for her love of dogs, her contagious laugh during late-night card games with friends, journaling, many camping trips, and her passion for movie marathons. Her kind spirit and down-to-earth nature made everyone feel welcome and loved. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Tynan Cucarola (Arden), Selena Lopez (Richard), Keani Lopez, and Fabian Lopez "Junior" (Elisabeth). Her legacy continues through her nine great-grandchildren: Romi, Rubi, Roxi, Tony, Vinny, Winter, Julian, Shelby, and Aiden- each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
She spent her later years as a resident of Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, where her playful spirit and cheerful presence touched many lives.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Crickett, and son-in-law, Juan; four grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia; brother, Kayo; and special friend, Fabian Lopez Sr. (Martha). She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Henry; husband, Mike Sandstead; and brothers, Mike, Robert Jr., Guy, and Patrick.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Heer Mortuary, located at 222 Cameron St. in Brush, Colorado. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the Memorial Park on the south side of Brush, offering an opportunity for guests to share memories and reflections.
