Betty Savage Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snow Funeral Home - Saginaw on Mar. 27, 2026.
Betty was the Beloved wife of the late Victor C. Savage, Jr., devoted mother to Sue (Tom) Murphy and Janet (Tim) Papst, cherished grandma to Hunter (Dakota) Hull, Tyler Murphy, Tucker Papst and Katie Papst, and proud GiGi to her first great-grandson Nevada Tate Hull. She passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026 with her daughters by her side.

She was born to Mary Komar Fountain on June 3,1931 and proudly lived most of her life in Carrollton, Michigan. Betty loved everything about Carrollton Schools following her girls through their school years as office aide in elementary school, cafeteria helper in middle school, library aide in high school – and even dance chaperone. She served as President of the PTO. She was an amazing seamstress and devoted many years to making costumes for the school plays.

Later years found her truly embracing the students at Carrollton/Saginaw ISD. There she enjoyed her time with her co-workers and all the students that aptly named her "grandma". It broke her heart to retire at the ripe, young age of 88.

Victor and Betty were married almost 63 years. They built the home in which they lived – on "the best street ever (Sunnyview Drive), with the most amazing neighbors EVER." She mentioned this often and was very thankful for 60 years of friendship bundled into one big, beautiful block.

Betty enjoyed the old days of bowling tournaments, golfing, and neighborhood parties. She loved to play cards, hit the Casinos, play bingo and to socialize. She was game for anything and even took her daughters camping, horseback riding, and flying in a float plane in Alaska. Her last roller coaster ride was at Disney at 90 years of age.

Highlights of her life were the many travels with family. And trips were always a special treat when joined by the kind, fun-loving, extended Murphy family.

But, most of all, Betty shall be remembered for her genuine kindness to all. She showed warmth, concern and care for everyone who crossed her path.

Later years found her in the warmth of wonderful friends that she met at Independence Village in Saginaw. A special thank you to Christina, Maria, Dixie, Annie, Sheila and Homestead Home Healthcare for their care and allowing her to live her final years with respect and dignity. And, a shout out to the Independence Village staff for serving her with bright smiles and kindness.

Friends may visit at Snow Funeral Home on Sunday, March 29 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between McCarty and Shattuck) in Saginaw, Michigan. The family requests that you please join for a luncheon at Baynes Apple Valley in Freeland following the service. A private burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Special Olympics.
