Betty L. Schreckengost, 98, of Lebanon, passed peacefully on November 29, 2025. Born in Wheeling, WV, on September 28, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Samuel (Bernie) and Bessie W. Berghoff. She was a graduate of DuBois High School, DuBois, PA, and Muskingum University, New Concord, OH.

For several years she and her husband co-owned a furniture and appliance store in Brookview, PA, before moving to Lebanon Co. where she was a longtime resident. Betty enjoyed running her Notary Public business and was well known by her patrons for her welcoming smile and friendly presence. She was community focused and served as Tax Collector for Union Township, Lebanon Co. She was a member of the Democratic party and served as a committee person in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, received her 50-year acknowledgment in 2000 and held the title of Worthy Matron with her chapter affiliation, Chapter 115 (Lebanon).

Betty resided on Lake Wynonah in Auburn for many years where she enjoyed gardening, boating and making memories with her family and friends. She experienced many adventures traveling with her husband, and she adored lighthouses, flowers and hummingbirds.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert E. Schreckengost, and her son Mace D. Schreckengost. She is survived by her sons Lance J. and Breck J. Screckengost; brother Lee (Flash) Berghoff; three grandchildren: Jennifer, Brad and Samantha Schreckengost; and five great grandchildren.

Betty will be fondly remembered as a kind, classy lady, full of poise and grace. She will forever be the "Keeper of the Light" for her family.

A private gathering to celebrate her life will be held at the convenience of the family.
