Betty Johnson Short, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence in Opelousas, Louisiana on February 13, 2025, at the age of 75. She was born on June 24, 1949, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where Betty spent her life dedicated to her family and the joys that brought them together.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Johnson Short will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. The Rite of Committal and burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.
Visitation for Betty will begin on Sunday, February 16, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening, and the funeral home will reopen on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.
The pallbearers will be Austin LeBlanc, Payton Thomas, Justin Bourque, Gage Venable, Joey Moss, Jimmy Johnson and Johnny Johnson.
Betty was known for her warm and kindhearted nature. She cherished moments spent with her family and friends, always bringing laughter and love to those around her. Her hobbies included engaging in arts and crafts and working on puzzles.
She is survived by her mother, Roberta T. Johnson; her daughters, Michelle Maxis LeBlanc of Opelousas, LA, Nicole Thomas of Scott, LA, and Monica Thomas of Breaux Bridge, LA; her brothers, Jimmy Johnson and his wife, Diane, of College Station, TX; Johnny Johnson and his wife, Nita, Scott, LA; and Larry Johnson of Opelousas, LA; her sisters, Cheryl Johnson Moss and her husband, Dalton, of Lafayette, LA; Myle Johnson Bourque of Opelousas, LA; and Janet Johnson Hollie and her husband, Mark, of Carencro, LA. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Jayci Thomas, Austin LeBlanc, Gage Venable, Krystian Trahan, Payton Thomas, Misty Trahan, and Jolie Trahan Brown, along with eight great-grandchildren who will continue her legacy of love and joy.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Short; her father, Wilton Johnson; her Godson, Jake Paul; and her nieces, Danielle Johnson Blake and Shannon Moss.
Betty Johnson Short will be remembered for her devotion to her family, and her ability to bring light into the lives of others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
