Kathleen Short Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gramer Funeral Home – Diener Chapel - Shelby Township on Mar. 21, 2026.
Kathleen "Kathy" Short, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022, at Troy Beaumont Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. Born and raised on Teppert Street in Detroit, Kathy grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the close-knit community that shaped her warm and welcoming spirit

Kathy was the kind of person who made every room brighter. She had a gift for conversation-whether sharing coffee with friends, catching up with neighbors, or simply offering a listening ear. Her social nature made her beloved by many, and she built lifelong friendships everywhere she went. From her time spent at Lakeside Villa to her everyday routines, Kathy found joy in people, stories, and simple moments. She also loved shopping, a pastime that brought her both delight and relaxation.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Kathy served as a secretary at Royal Oak Beaumont, supporting doctors with grace, reliability, and professionalism. Even after her formal career, she kept herself busy with waitressing and various side jobs-always eager to help others and stay active in her community.

Kathy's greatest pride and deepest love was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Christie Gabriel, and Christie's partner, Brandon Didonato, who will forever cherish her warmth, humor, and the countless memories they shared. Kathy is reunited in eternal peace with her husband, Don Short (d. August 22, 2022), her son James (d. August 2002), and her brother Jim Corrigan (d. 2020).

Those who knew Kathy will remember her as a woman who loved deeply, laughed often, and lived with a generous heart. Her presence brought comfort, her friendship brought joy, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

May her beautiful spirit rest in peace.
