Betty Jean Townsend, age 83, of Anderson, Missouri, formerly of Miami, Oklahoma and Jane, Missouri, departed this life peacefully on Thursday evening, August 21, 2025, at the McDonald County Living Center in Anderson, Missouri, after years of declining health. She entered this life on April 4, 1942, in Stella, Missouri, born to the union of the late Lawrence and Kathyrn (Mcgarrah) Horton.

She was raised Powell, Missouri, and was a graduate of Rocky Comfort High School. Her adventurous spirit and robust work ethic led her to a fulfilling career as a truck driver for CFI and Panter Brothers Trucking, where she was known for her dedication and tenacity. After many years on the road, Betty transitioned to a role that showcased her nurturing side, working as a nurse's aide at the hospital in Miami, Oklahoma, where she provided care and comfort to those in need.

Betty's life was guided by her deep faith as a member of the Pentecostal church. Her devotion was evident in the way she lived her life, always putting others before herself and spreading kindness wherever she went. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as traveling to new places, creating beautiful crocheted pieces, and spending time with her loved ones. Betty's hands were rarely still, as she was a hard worker who took pride in everything she did.

Her legacy will live on through her family. Betty is survived by her three children, Ricky Townsend, Sandy Richardson and her husband, Kenneth, and Jody Townsend and his wife, Trudy, all of Jane, Missouri. Her nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter will forever cherish the memories they made with their beloved matriarch. Betty also leaves behind her brother, Gary Horton and his wife, Trisha, of Miami, Oklahoma; her sisters, Kathy Horton of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, and Cindy Horton of Chickamauga, Georgia; and a host of other family and friends who were blessed to know her.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Larry James Townsend, and her brothers, Leroy and Calvin Horton.

Private interment will take place at Jane Cemetery in Jane, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
