Betty Jane White, age 100, of Milford, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on July 22, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland, to William and Jessie Powell, Betty's life was marked by resilience, compassion, and an enduring spirit. As a young girl, her family relocated to Lincoln Park, Michigan, where her father found work in the steel industry. Betty would go on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Michigan State University-a field that matched her deep empathy and desire to help others.
Betty dedicated many years of her life to serving the people of Michigan as a social worker. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on both her clients and her colleagues, who held her in the highest regard.
After World War II, Betty met her first husband, David Lynn, a returning serviceman. Together, they raised a family before eventually parting ways. Later, she met and married William White, with whom she shared a loving partnership until his passing.
Betty had many passions that enriched her life and the lives of those around her. A devoted lover of music-especially bluegrass-she attended over 200 concerts with her son Jim, creating memories they both cherished. She also found great joy in gardening and reading, and her quiet strength and steady presence were a comfort to all who knew her.
Above all, Betty will be remembered for her kindness, her steadfast nature, and the love she gave so freely. She lived a life of purpose and grace, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at a later date.
Beloved mother of James Powell Lynn, cherished friend to many.
Betty is preceded in passing by her husband William White, brother Sinclair Powell, and parents William and Jessie Powell.
