Mrs. Betty June Wise, 89, of Tovey, IL wife of Rev. Howard Wise, Sr., passed peacefully from this life with family at her side at 2:19 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2025, at her home in Tovey.

She was born in Tovey, IL August 17, 1935, the daughter of Leander Curtis and Lillie Marie (Dixon) Byers. Betty married Rev. Howard E. Wise, Sr. February 27, 1954, in Tovey, IL and he preceded her in death March 9, 2010.

Mrs. Wise loved God. She supported Rev. Howard Wise in everything he did with the churches he served. She was very active in the Kincaid Baptist Church where her husband served the longest, 23 years. When she was younger, she attended the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville from the time she was 6 years old until the age of 17. Betty enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and painting statues. She always made sure that during Christmas and Birthdays everyone had a gift to open. Mrs. Wise loved going to Walmart and would go there to shop with anyone who would take her. She also loved going to the Illinois River camping at Vernon and Anna's cabin. She couldn't wait until the next Friday. She really loved it when her whole family would show up for the weekend. Betty worked for the Village of Tovey cleaning the Village Hall and Park for over 30 years. She also worked at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She was a loving and dedicated Mom, Grandma and Minister's Wife. Most of all she especially loved her family and the time she was able to spend with them.

Surviving are her children: Rosalee Wingo of Tovey, IL; Vivian Cearlock, Roger Wise and companion Verna Coleman, Vernon Wise (wife Anna), Precilla Wise and companion Tony Coleman, and Howard Wise, Jr all of Kincaid, IL; 13 grandchildren: Scott and Adam Wingo, Trish Wise-Mendoza, Daniel and Matthew Fleming, Glen Thomas, Howard Wise III, Ashley Wise, Devin Wise, Hunter Wise; Logan Wise, Emily Wise and Donald "Tate" Wise; 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; a step-brother Joseph (Sharon) Cavatorta of Mt. Carmel, IL along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Leander Byers and Lillian Marie Cavatorta, her loving husband Rev. Howard E. Wise, Sr., a brother Leander Byers, Jr, and sister Sharon Smith.

Visitation for Mrs. Betty J. Wise will be held from 9 am to 11 am on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Kincaid Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 am at the Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Kunz and Rev. Robert Stocker officiating. Immediately following services, she will be interred next to her husband Rev Howard Wise, Sr. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid is honored to be serving the family, and for those unable to attend condolences, may be left at mastersonfh.com
