Robinson-Walker Funeral Home – Oak HarborBetty Lou Young-Bryant, 94, formerly of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Monday, December 1, 2025, at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, OH. She was born on March 16, 1931, in Vincent, KY, to Herschel and Mary (Cox) Mainous.
Betty devoted her early years to raising her children as a loving homemaker. Once they were older, she began working at Finke Pharmacy in Oak Harbor. When her husband, William Young, was transferred for work, the family relocated to Columbus, OH, where they continued raising their children. While in Columbus, Betty worked as the manager of the millinery department at the Union Department Store.
Betty returned to the Oak Harbor area and in time, she formed a special companionship with Maynard "Scheno" Priesman, with whom she enjoyed traveling and spending time. She later worked for Ottawa County Human Services for ten years before retiring. During retirement, she treasured spending her winters in Florida with A. Duane Bryant, whom she married later in life; he preceded her in death in 2017.
Betty was active in her community throughout the years. She was a member and past president of the Oak Harbor American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Riverview Nursing Home Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, and a member of the Epsilon Eta Sorority. She was a natural caregiver who supported and cared for the special people in her life. As the cherished matriarch of her family, she loved gathering her loved ones together and held a deep, unwavering love for her children and grandchildren. Betty treasured every moment spent with family and was always willing to do whatever she could to be present and available for them.
She is survived by her children, Harry "Skip" (Linda) Burks III, Sandra (Fred) Burks-Schnoor, and Margaret "Pegge" (Curt Brown) LaValle; grandchildren, Rick (Shelley), Melissa, Victoria, Kimberly (James), Ryan (Darren), Casey (Colleen), Anthony "Tony," and William "Billy"; 17 great-grandchildren; half-sisters, Brenda and Frances; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel Mainous and Mary Lengacher; stepfather, Homer Lengacher; son, George Young; brother, Ron Mainous; husbands, Harry B. Burks, Jr., William Young, and Duane Bryant; and her special companion, Maynard "Scheno" Priesman.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 12, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint St., Oak Harbor, OH, with an hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Catawba Island Township Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH.
