Robinson-Walker Funeral Home – Oak HarborWilliam "Bill" Zunk Sr., also lovingly known as "Billy" and "Papa Billy," of Oak Harbor, passed away on February 24, 2026, at the age of 67.
Born on June 8, 1958, in Oregon, Ohio, Bill was the son of Melvin "Bill" and Virginia "Peg" (Romaine) Zunk. He was a proud graduate of Oak Harbor High School, Class of 1976, and remained a lifelong member of the Oak Harbor community. Bill dedicated many years of hard work as a machine operator at Plabell Rubber Products in Toledo until his retirement.
In his free time, Bill embraced life's simple pleasures. He loved playing golf at any course he could find, and in his younger years, he could often be found playing pool with friends. He enjoyed fixing up old cars, listening to music-especially the classic rock hits of the 1960s and 1970s-and cheering on his favorite teams, the Buffalo Bills, Ohio State University Buckeyes, and most recently, Bowling Green State University Falcons.
Above all else, Bill treasured his family. He rarely missed his grandchildren's sporting events and activities, always cheering them on from the sidelines with pride. He was famous among family and friends for his homemade burritos and his beloved peanut butter fudge, treats that became staples at gatherings-especially during Christmastime, when being surrounded by family brought him the greatest joy. Bill will be remembered as a selfless, deeply involved, and family-oriented man of faith.
He is survived by his sons, Christopher Zunk, Rob (Tiffini) Zunk, and William (Margie) Zunk Jr.; grandchildren, Sophia, Owen, and Billy; siblings, Mike Zunk and Cheryl VanDeusen; brother-in-law, Larry Wilkes; many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends, and countless others who knew him as "Papa". He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin "Bill" and Virginia "Peg" Zunk; brother, Danny Zunk; and sister, Dottie Wilkes.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10:00am-12:00pm at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Water Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449. A memorial ceremony will take place at 12:00pm in the funeral chapel. Memorial donations in Bill's honor may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
