Bettye Sue Cates passed from this life Sunday November 30, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Bettye was born on January 19, 1947, in Murfreesboro, TN to the late Herman Bryant and Evie Leathers Bryant. She was a faithful member of The Experience Church in Shelbyville, TN.
Survivors include a daughter; Kimberly (Jeff) Hicks of Petersburg, TN, grandchildren; Robert Wayne Key of Smyrna, TN, Jessica Brooke Key of Smyrna, TN, Kynsey (Chris) Flynn of Donelson, TN, A.J. Warren of Manchester, TN, Jeremey (Autum) Warren of Tullahoma, TN, Taylor (Mindi) Hicks of Hartsell, Ala., Courtney Hicks of McKensey, TN, siblings; Linda (Kenneth) Smith of Bell Buckle, TN, and Willie (Debbie) Bryant of Rockvale, TN, Kimberly and Tina's father Wayne (Kinky) Cunningham of Shelbyville, TN, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great greatgrandchild.
Along with her parents Bettye was preceded in death by her husband Glen Cates in 2010 and daughter Tina Key in 1996.
Funeral service will be held 1 PM Thursday December 4, 2025, at Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Bro. Marty Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Cothran Cemetery in the Rover Community of Bedford County. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 11AM at the funeral home.
